Established in 1815, Ardbeg is revered by connoisseurs around the world as among the peatiest and smokiest, yet most complex, of all the Islay malts. Despite its smokiness, it is renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon that has affectionately become known as ‘the peaty paradox’. Ardbeg’s home is the small, remote Scottish Isle of Islay (pronounced eye-lah). . The Ardbeg Distillery perches by a rocky cove on the island’s wild and untamed southern coast. Celtic monks, raiding Norsemen, the Lords of the Isles, 19th century smugglers…they’ve all played their part in Ardbeg’s story. Islay’s dramatic past lives in the Ardbeg brand to this day. Ardbeg doesn’t behave like other whiskies – predictable or safe. Never has. Never will. Unorthodox and authentic to the core, it’s rooted in our island home and its people. Yet never stuck in the past. Light Gold. A burst of intense smoky fruit escapes into the atmosphere – peat infused with zesty lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate. Bold menthol and black pepper slice through the sweet smoke followed by tarry ropes and graphite. As you dip your nose in further, savour the aroma of smoked fish and crispy bacon alongside green bell peppers, baked pineapple and pear juice. Add water and breathe in the vortex of aromas rising from the glass. An oceanic minerality brings a breath of cool, briny seaspray on chalky cliffs.
Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. In the making of of Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from the peat, give Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor. Laphroaig is best savored neat, or with a little cool water. The original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it over 75 years ago. Those enjoying the 10 year old will first notice the bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness. This full-bodied variant is the foundation of all Laphroaig expressions and comes with a long finish.
