Dewar’s Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, is on a continuous journey of experimentation to develop new flavor profiles in the Dewar’s house style. This 8 year old old blended Scotch Whisky has flavors that complement our Eastern Highlands Scottish character of floral and honeyed flavor with notes of brown sugar and tropical fruits, and an extra smooth finish on the palate. Normally, 60% of a Whisk(e)y’s flavor comes from the wood. This is enhanced even more so by the extra aging period, so Stephanie decided to place this blend in ex-Caribbean rum casks to finish their maturation. This specific cask finishing beautifully complements the classic Dewar’s house style, creating a complex, yet harmonious blend.
An interesting product this one. Laphroaig spirit of different ages (so no age statement on the bottle) matured the usual way, then finished in smaller casks to speed up the process but also change the style of maturation slightly.
